About Us
Dying Matters Leicestershire and Rutland was set up to help improve end of life experiences for people of all ages, and for their families and loved ones.
The initiative began in Rutland, led by Dr Sarah Furness, His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland, after hearing from local families about their experiences of end of life care. Many people described excellent support from NHS, care, faith and voluntary organisations, but also said that services were not always as joined up as they could be, and that it was difficult to find clear information in one place.
The project brings together local information, practical guidance and sources of support, helping people to plan ahead, find the right help, and feel less alone at a difficult time. It has since expanded so that people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland can benefit from the information and support available.
Meet The Trustees
Dying Matters in Leicestershire and Rutland is guided by a Board of Trustees who bring a wide range of experience, knowledge and perspectives to our work.
Our Trustees are responsible for the charity's governance and strategic direction, helping to ensure that our work remains relevant, responsible and focused on the needs of people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. They give their time voluntarily and work alongside our wider network of partners and supporters to help shape what we do and how we develop.
Dr Hilary Fox
Dr Hilary Fox is a retired Rutland GP, former Locality Lead for Rutland with the Commissioning Group and former Clinical Director of Rutland Primary Care Network and a former Medical Examiner.
A trustee of Dying Matters Rutland since 2023, she was elected as Chair in 2025.
Tracy Moores
Tracy Moores is the Founder and CEO of Glorious Brands Ltd. and has over 30 years’ experience building brands, leading teams and driving business growth.
Alongside her commercial career, Tracy is passionate about supporting the charity sector. A former hospice Trustee and Income Generation Lead, she now serves as a Trustee of Dying Matters Rutland, where she advocates for more open and honest conversations about death, dying and bereavement.
Having experienced significant personal loss, Tracy has a particular commitment to helping people feel more confident talking about end-of-life wishes and forward planning, so that individuals and families can feel better prepared and supported when it matters most.
Peter Vickers
Peter Vickers retired in 2018 after a career in broadcasting, journalism, communications and public affairs. His final role was as Deputy Director of the European Broadcasting Union in Geneva, where he lived for 17 years.
He previously worked for PR Newswire, Associated Press and Reuters, and was involved in the launches of Euronews and Al Arabiya.
Since retiring, Peter has held several voluntary roles, including with Plan International Switzerland, HMP Stocken's Independent Monitoring Board and Edith Weston Parish Council. He is now a trustee of Voluntary Action Rutland.
Peter and his wife moved to Rutland in 2021. In his spare time, he is a devoted dog walker, bad bridge player and adequate sailor.
Paul Taylor
Paul graduated with a degree in Sociology from the University of Kent at Canterbury. Until he retired, he taught social sciences in further education and more recently in a secondary school. He has authored a number of Sociology textbooks and still works as a senior examiner for a leading assessment body.
Paul is married to Jo with two children, a step-daughter and five grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoys fencing, keeping fit, walking in the countryside gardening and most importantly spending time with his grandchildren. He also loves travelling with Jo, especially in India and South-East Asia.
Paul is a strong believer in allowing everyone the chance to die with dignity and started working with Dying Matters to help facilitate this in Rutland.
