A programme of online workshops took place across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland as part of Dying Matters Awareness Week 2025, helping people understand more about planning for the end of life, what happens during the dying process and what to expect after a death.

Supported by Dying Matters in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland alongside LOROS, the National Association of Funeral Directors and NHS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, the workshops brought together professionals experienced in supporting patients and families.

Topics included:

  • talking about death and dying

  • caring for someone approaching the end of life

  • Advance Care Planning and ReSPECT

  • wills, funerals and digital legacies

  • what dying may look like at home, in hospital, in a care home or in a hospice

  • what happens immediately after a death

  • registration and other legal processes

  • grief and bereavement support

  • spiritual and cultural wishes and beliefs

Dying Matters Awareness Week takes place nationally each year and encourages communities to talk more openly about dying, death and bereavement.
